Week 1 Preview: Sachem North vs. Pat-Med

Posted Friday, September 10, 2010 by SachemPatch
Patchogue-Medford remains one of Sachem's biggest rival, especially on the football field. The games have historically been good, dating back to 1977 when the Flaming Arrows beat Pat-Med to win their first Suffolk County title.

As a seventh seed to start the year, Pat-Med is recovering from last season's 2-6 campaign. Sachem is on a different level completely.

Match-up: Sachem North vs. Patchogue-Medford

Division: I

Venue: Fred Fusaro Alumni Stadium, Lake Ronkonkoma

In-game battles: Pat-Med will have its hands full. There is little hope in containing Sachem's skill players. Look for QB/DB Kevin Gerard and TE/DE Chris Makulik to make a mild difference for the Raiders. Sachem's line play and backfield should have no problem putting up some easy points early and coasting in the second half.

Interesting facts

  • Sachem is 27-17-2 all-time against Pat-Med. Its first game dates back to 1962, a 21-0 Patchogue win. Sachem was only in its second varsity season ever at that point.
  • Sachem has outscored Pat-Med, 723-682 all-time.
  • Their last meeting was in 2008, a 41-0 Sachem win.
  • Sachem is 26-24 all-time in Week 1 games. It has won eight of the last nine and four in a row.
