After guiding Sachem football to its first Long Island championship this year, Dave Falco was selected as Newday’s Suffolk County Coach of the Year. It was announced at the annual Suffolk County Football Coaches Association dinner at the Hyatt Regency in Hauppauge, N.Y. Monday night.

Falco is always quick to point out his support staff and credited everyone from parents to administrators to great players and assistant coaches for the honor.

“Anytime someone recognizes your efforts it’s appreciated,” he said. “Coaches awards are really team awards. A head coach can not be successful without great support around him. I’m not in this to get awards, but it’s about the program and how the program is run and our program is run with a team effort and family motto.”

Falco is 69-36 in 11 seasons as the head coach at Sachem and sports a winning percentage of .657, one of the highest marks on Long Island for active head coaches.
